– A lesson, beyond MBA
On February 21, 2011, the birth anniversary of the Founder, Late Mr R.K. Shrivastava, celebrated as the Founder’s Day at FIIB, children of PVR Nest and students of Muskaan came over to the FIIB campus and made the experience a truly memorable one
As is the tradition at FIIB (Fortune Institute of International Business), on February 21, the birth anniversary of the late Founder, Mr RK Shrivastava, underprivileged children are invited to the campus to spend the day with FIIB-ians. This is also a part of the FIIB Jagriti Movement, which strives to adopt children deprived of a good life and help them restart their lives with a new hope.
On February 21, 2011, children of PVR Nest, an NGO that adopts the underprivileged, the destitute and the orphaned, and the students of Muskaan, an institute for the mentally challenged, spent a very special day at FIIB. While the norm was that FIIB hosted a show to entertain children, this time around, the guests themselves presented an exclusive program for FIIB-ians.
The event began with a magic show hosted by Rajah, who pulled out pigeons and rabbits out of empty baskets and sounded dumb horns on. He was a roaring riot amongst the audiences that comprised children of PVR Nest, students of Muskaan, faculty, staff and students of FIIB, who watched in rapt attention. The audience craved for more, while Rajah went on to pull out scarves from the his hand cuffs and let coloured balls vanish into thin air.
What came next was a series of cultural programs showcased by the children of PVR Nest and the students of Muskaan, which were fervently prepared over two months. The Muskaan students went first with a performance of Shiv Tandav. It was not only a display of sincerity and enthusiasm to put their best foot forward but also to not compromise on quality owing to any excuse, even if it meant, mental disabilities.
The children of PVR Nest surprised the audience with a contemporary dance that was supported by an enormous puppet. There were audible gasps in the audience, who was thrilled to this massive edifice appearing out of nowhere – well, almost! Their months of practice was evident, as they performed every move to perfection.
The finale was kick started by the students of Muskaan with a jig to Bollywood numbers. The songs were so irresistible that everyone landed on the dance floor. This appeared like a true celebration of the spirit of Founder’s Day in every way.
After the fun and frolic in the amphitheatre, it was time to address gastronomical issues. The aroma of fresh food was already wafting in the air. It was heartening to see students of FIIB scuttle after the guests – playing concerned hosts and serving food. Happy faces lit up the cafeteria.
To conclude the day, Ms Radhika Shrivastava, the Vice President stirred a fantastic idea of getting the special guests to leave a souvenir behind, in the form of a painting. The crowd was divided into groups, each of which was given a problem, the solution to which was meant to be demonstrated on a canvas! Of course, the problems were all related to Sustainability, tailor-made to be discerned by these minds. And the outcome? Interesting, beautiful, inspiring and thought-provoking.
Aditya Jain, student, FIIB, a tad emotional after the special guests departed confessed, “The event was such a great learning experience that it doesn’t match the learning of several years put together!” Manisha Singh gulping in a tear added, “Yes indeed. We already look forward to working with them again.”
