VICE-PRESIDENT AND HEAD – DEVELOPMENT & ALLIANCES,
BHARTI FOUNDATION
One of the ‘100 Women Achievers of India’ 2015
Mamta Saikia is the Vice-President and Head – Development & Alliances of Bharti Foundation. Bharti Foundation, the development arm of Bharti Enterprises was set up in 2000 with the vision ‘to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential’. It implements and supports programs in the fields of primary, elementary, senior secondary and higher education, with an aim to transform children into educated, employable and responsible citizens of tomorrow, with a sense of commitment to community in which they live. Continuing the tradition of contributing towards the nation’s agenda, the Foundation has announced ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’, an initiative to improve sanitation facilities in rural Ludhiana.
Mamta’s focused approach and multitasking abilities help her execute her role as Vice-President. She spearheads the creation of program strategies, conceptualizing, planning, implementation, monitoring and optimizing impact assessments. She plays a key role in inspiring her team to maintain quality standards and deliver maximum benefit to the beneficiaries of the programs. She spearheaded the development of holistic school policies, programs as well as operations manual to standardize the functioning of the schools and teacher training program. It has not only helped in improving the quality of education in the schools but is also creating replicable and sealable models of good practices. The holistic approach to education has given national recognition to the school program for creating social agents of change. The advocacy efforts that she has made in various Government and Corporate forums have not only increased the visibility of Bharti Foundation, but also has made Bharti Foundation a voice in the education space.
Mamta has worked with her team to transfer the learnings and good practices of the Satya Bharti School Program to Government schools both through the Quality Support Program and the Satya Bharti Learning Centres (remedial program). While the former envisages improving the quality of schooling through need-based interventions in government schools to take them on the path of excellence, the latter aims to enroll “out of school children” back into schools and ensure their continued education.
Mamta started her career as a management consultant after completing her Post Graduation Diploma in Business Management. She then moved to CRY – Child Rights & You. In her tenure of nine years at CRY, Mamta held various prestigious positions including Member of the Management Committee, Head – Resource Mobilization and Head – Global Operations.
Before joining Bharti Foundation, Mamta worked extensively on the issues of disability, animal rights, women’s issues and HIV AIDS.
